CALGARY -- After enjoying a bye this past week, the Stampeders were back on the field at McMahon Stadium on Sunday.

Of the most important topics head coach John Hufnagel covered after practice was the confirmation that all three of his quarterbacks were healthy and that Drew Tate will reclaim his position under centre when the Stampeders host the Roughriders on Friday night.

“All three quarterbacks threw the ball and they’re all ready to play. That’s something we haven’t had for a few weeks. It puts you back in the comfort position where you can call on any one of the three. You know how physical the game is,” said Hufnagel.

“Drew was able to play in the last game; he just wasn’t going to be at 100 per cent. Fortunately, (Bo Levi Mitchell) stepped up as a lot of young players have done for this football team and played football in a winning fashion,” he added.

Last week saw Mitchell lead the Stampeders to an impressive 37-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In the game, Mitchell threw for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns, en-route to being named Offensive Player of the Week.

Despite his strong play, Hufnagel remained adamant that his mentality regarding his quarterbacks remains unchanged. By that logic, Tate is number one, while Kevin Glenn and Mitchell slot in at the two and three spots respectively.

“Why would my mindset change (based) on the action of one game versus another guy who got us to the Grey Cup last year? I’ll play the quarterback until I believe a change is needed. Whoever that is and whenever that is, that’s up to me to figure out during game day,” said Hufnagel.

With their only bye week of the season in the rear-view mirror, Hufnagel is looking forward to seeing what his team is made of, as they hit the dog days of the regular season.

“(The bye week) was good. A good time to relax but also a time to study our football team and see what we’re good at and see the things we need to get better at. Now we had a practice to work at the things we need to get better at.”

This is the game OF THE WEEK ! imho

The stamps are playing really good but the Riders are playing scary good.

As a Rider fan, I'd rather play Tate - the fans can rattle him and we all know McMahon Stadium is Rider Nation's second home.

Looking forward to listening to the game - can't watch on TSN. Here's hoping that 600 CKOM does not turn down their transmit power in the middle of the broadcast. I'd have to listen to the hometown radio guys on Sirrus - YUCK !

Big Stamp fan here! IMHO, Tate gets the nod. Huffco is ib the enviable position of having three fierce qb's in his stable. Now he knows that all three can 'plug n play', this year is going to be less stressful (for me, at least). This game is going to be a hoot! The line match up, the rb's, the qb's, etc. Chamblin/Hall/Cortez vs. Huff/Campbell/Dickinson? Man oh, man, are we all lucky CFL fans, this week. Horsepower...

Gosh, now you're calling them the melonheads? Oh well, at least you're not calling them the regina green roughriders.

Should be a good game , Tate will have to get rid of the ball quick. the Rider d-line and the Stamps o-line will be a good match to watch.

I think Bo Levi Mitchell should have started. Glenn and Tate are good quarterbacks, but come on; Bo Levi Mitchell missed only 4 passing attempts last week. They should have given him a chance to see how he would have done against the Roughriders.

Don`t think that you want to toss a QB, no matter how talented, in against a tough team. Mitchell was, after all, playing against the Bombers last week who had a less-than-stellar defense!

Should have added an adjective in there to read - "toss an inexperienced QB, no matter how talented" That was the intent of my meaning.

Yah I think it will be an excellent test. Let's review, the Riders have already beaten the Stampeders this season.

That doesn't make the Riders unbeatable - unless you are a Riders` fan! LOL!!

If Tate is the number 1 then go with him. But to me, he hasn't proven he is a 'great' quarterback, let alone able to stay healthy.

A lil bit too early to be comparing TATE to Bucko. For one tate is a much better QB but if he continues to get injured and another QB plays at a high level than he will lose his job to injury

This will be an extremely important game for both teams and the west in general. At the moment Calgary looks like the best bet to beat the Riders, all I can say is Durant had better be there, and he has to bring his A game.
