TORONTO -- The Toronto Argonauts announced Thursday morning the signing of 28-year-old speedy import running back Steve Slaton.

Slaton, most recently with the Miami Dolphins (2011-2012), was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round (89th overall) of the 2008 NFL draft. He set multiple franchise records in his first season, including a new single-game rookie record with 156 rushing yards and a touchdown.

He also broke the then-franchise single season rushing record with 1,282 yards. In 2010, he served as the Texans' primary kick returner.

Slaton was explosive while at West Virginia University (2005-2007) where he still holds school records for all-time rushing touchdowns (50) and all-time total touchdowns (55).

As a freshman in 2005, he was named the Nokia Sugar Bowl MVP and Big East Rookie of the Year.

As a sophomore, he broke the WVU season rushing record with 1,744 yards and 16 touchdowns. Slaton finished college with 4,728 combined yards and was a member of two Bowl championship teams in three years.

The Toronto Argonauts also announced that import RB Tristan Davis has been released.

Shall be a great competition at TC with all these talented RB's. Kackert better stay healthy or he'll lose his spot.

There is no way that Kackert will be ready for training camp. Look for him mid-season if ever - he needs to recover from 2 pins and a plate screwed into his ankle.

@D-G-W - I agree - Kack is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season - hence the competition in camp among RBs!
