Winnipeg (CFL.ca) - Identifying talent in free agent camps throughout North America have
paid off for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers heading into the 2008 season.
The football club announced the signings of four players Wednesday,
including a pair of athletes spotted in workouts held in the U.S.
The Blue Bombers inked wide receiver Jeff Moore and defensive back Willie Tagoa’i to deals, in part because of their performance at the free agent camps
the club held during the off-season. Moore impressed the club’s
football brass in his native Jackson, Miss., while Tagoa’i raised
eyebrows at a workout held in Los Angeles.
“Jeff and Willie are very good finds for us,” said Blue Bombers general
manager Brendan Taman. “Our free agent camps are very important tools
to our football club, and if it were not for these camps, we would not
have found these two quality players.”
In addition to Moore and Tagoa’i, the Blue Bombers also have inked imports Nick McNeil (defensive end) and Josh Miller (defensive tackle).
Moore (5-11, 192, DOB: April 13, 1986) played in each of his
four years with the Samford University Bulldogs. The business
management major had a stellar senior season in 2007, hauling in 61
receptions for 996 yards and six touchdowns, including a nine-catch,
260-yard, three-touchdown performance against Tennessee Tech. Moore was
also the 2006 team leader in receiving yards (49 receptions for 668
yards and five touchdowns in 11 games).
Tagoa’i (6-3, 223, DOB: January 30, 1983) was a starter at UNLV
following his selection to the Junior College Grid-Wire All-American
team with Palomar College. The defensive back was mainly a safety at
the NCAA level.
McNeil (6-3, 243, DOB: Aug. 19, 1981) was a three-time
all-conference selection at Western Carolina University before spending
time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Washington
Redskins and New York Giants. He finished sixth on the school’s
all-time sack list (18.5).
Miller (6-3, 283, DOB: Nov. 19, 1986) was a three-time
all-conference selection (All-GLIAC) at Saginaw Valley State
University. He started each of the Cardinals 10 games last year,
leading the team in sacks (9.5), tackles for loss (13.5) and was second
on the team in tackles (86). Miller finished his collegiate career
ranked second in sacks (24) and is tied for second in tackles for loss
(37).
