TORONTO -- The Toronto Argonauts will have a new pair of sure-handed, speedy receivers to deploy in 2012.
Former Vanier Cup MVP and 2011 Argonauts draft pick WR Julian Feoli-Gudino has signed with the club through the 2014 season. The club has also signed free agent import WR Andrew Strickland through 2013.
Projected to be a high, first round pick in last year’s draft, Feoli-Gudino sustained an injury in the 2010 season which decreased his draft profile. The Argos confidently, and happily, grabbed Feoli-Gudino in the fifth round knowing that he was already on the mend.
Fully rehabbed and anxious to play, he returned to the Rouge et Or lineup in 2011 and led the QUFL in receiving and receiving yards, and even caught 10 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in November’s Vanier Cup final against McMaster.
He joins the Argos as the CIS’s second-leading career receptions leader and with the twelfth-most receiving yards in a career. In 2008, he was named the MVP of the Vanier Cup game when he scored a 74-yard punt return touchdown and an 82-yard receiving touchdown.
A pure athlete, Strickland was a star receiver at Wofford College. He was also asked, at times, to carry the ball and return kicks. A Second-Team All-Conference choice as a senior, he caught 84 passes for 1,544 yards and 15 TDs in his four-year college career.
He led the Terriers in receiving as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honour Roll in each of those three years. He earned All-Region and All-Area in both football and baseball while attending Gaffney High School in South Carolina.
Strickland has been a member of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons.
