Roughriders Release CFL Signature Uniforms Staff

REGINA -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders today unveiled a special edition jersey which will debut at Mosaic Stadium on August 16th against the Montreal Alouettes.

The special addition jersey will be worn up to two times a year and is part of the new CFL Signature Uniform program from Reebok.  Player video’s and images of the new jersey can be viewed at

Fast, bold and exciting, this new jersey was designed to capture the spirit and energy of Rider Nation.  The new design uses traditional Rider green as its core but highlights that iconic colour with a new blitz green.  A modern addition to the classic look, blitz green takes the design to a whole new level.

Special sublimated twill numbers show off the unique “wheat to sky” pattern inspired by the current logo.  Combined with the new carbon coloured pants a modern new sock design and topped by a wheat pattern wrapped helmet, the new signature uniform is unlike anything in the 104 year history of the Roughriders.

“Our new special addition Jersey brings a new Green to the Roughrider Colour palette.   The new “Blitz Green” is a vibrant colour that complements the traditional Rider green   and delivers a new energy to game day”, said president and CEO Jim Hopson.

“This is a very unique, bold jersey.  It’s definitely a statement jersey that our players are really excited to suite up and play in on Aug 16th,”
Assistant GM Jeremy O’Day commented,

In addition to jerseys, the Rider Store will stock an assortment of hats, tee shirts and a sideline polo.

Mark Habicht, Director of Retail Operations added, “We wanted to allow coaches and fans to get in on the new green and be part of this exciting new look.”

Fan Comments
The 'Riders are the 3rd biggest sports brand in Canada, just behind the Habs and the Leafs.
Why dilute the brand with 3rd jerseys in markedly different design and color, they certainly don't?
Rider Nation is known as a sea of green not a sea of whatever this is.

For you older fans complaining, change is a good thing. Yes breaking tradition can seem bad at first but without change we wouldn't have helmets and we'd be still running heavy out of now forgotten formations. George Halas wouldn't have placed position coaches in the press box, and we'd still be kicking horrible field goals. New type of jersey is the weakest change, get used to it. The game is always gonna change in every different way, that's how it gets better.

Hey! I was a rider fan from birth in '92. It took until 2007 to actually have a good season but I watched almost every single game anyway. Rider fans are lifers. Best in the league. And aint nothing wrong with lizards neither.

Wow fans slow down! They are supposed to be different NOT retro and a bit cutting edge to appeal more to the younger fans. They are NOT replacing the 2012 unis and will be worn only a couple of times a year. I can see how these unis depict the Rider root and think they look just fine. The only thing that seems overdone is the helmet - maybe less design. @ar - The Als worst nightmare is not facing the unis but the team!

ugliest uniforms yet - and that includes those red and black ones 2 years ago

What happened to the black and green uniforms...

Enough with the Black... and the rest looks like a cross between the Seattle Seahawks and the Oregon Ducks. Pathetic. I agree with an earlier poster: Best uniforms were the 60s-70s era and the retro ones that emulate those. Sad to see the Riders stoop this low... hope it's a big FAIL!

Its not the Riders who stooped low. It's Reebok trying to squeeze more money out of the fans.

Look aside...I'm just disappointed because "new" uniforms were just issued a couple years ago. I don't like my new stuff being "obsoleted" so quickly.

Hideous. Best uniforms were the 60s-70s era and the retro ones that emulate those. It's incredible that professional designers were involved in this design . . . at least if they were sober.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! total disappointment

As a CFL fan for over 40 years, this is a total disgrace to rider pride
