WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced today that they have released non-import safety Ian Logan and import quarterback Joey Elliott.

“We would first off like to thank both of these gentlemen for their efforts and dedication to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack.  “Difficult decisions in this business are unfortunately part of the job, and we wish the very best to both of these quality individuals.”

Elliott was signed in July of 2010, seeing action in all three seasons since his arrival. In 2012, Elliott appeared in nine games for the Bombers, completing 170 passes for 280 yards with five touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

In Week 8, Elliott had a brilliant game under centre for the Bombers, throwing for a whopping 406 yards against the Tiger-Cats. He nearly duplicated that performance in Week 15 against Montreal, as he led the Bombers to a 27-22 win over the Als, throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns.

Both outings saw him earn Offensive Player of the Week honours.

Logan, meanwhile, was originally signed as a free agent in early 2006, playing the past seven seasons in Blue and Gold.

In 16 outings in 2012, the Waterloo, ON. native registered 46 tackles, one sack and one interception. He leaves the Bombers with 224 career tackles, four sacks and 12 picks.

I just don't understand the bombers decision making at qb, I agree, elliot had more potential than brink, must be about money or something. it looks like they're going with pierce yet again, management will look foolish if he goes down again.

The Elliot release was not a big surprise. Apparently the BB coaching staff were not impressed with his attitude and work ethic.

This is a huge loss for the bombers, Elliott was a gritty qb that just needed a little bit more time to develop. Clearly the answer for the Bombers starting qb is not currently on the roster and they have a lot of work to do to go and find one.

I think we may regret the loss of Elliot. I totally agree. A good QB hampered by an O line that really need some tweeking ........

Surprised Elliot was still on WPG's roster, thought he got releasee dmonths ago.

Doubt he will latch on with any other club, unless Ottawa has slim pickens in the expansion draft process (if desperatley looking for a #3 QB).

The 26 years old product from the Purdue Boilermakers has a brutal TD / INT ratio. One of the worst QB ratings for CFL pivots last year as well.

Joey might have to fall back to singing for Def Leppard.

not totally surprised by Logan ... they just signed Muamba as a free agent for probably less than logan was making. Elliot's a bit of a surprise. He had his chance to prove he was a starter. I thought he did ok for a young guy with no Oline. certainly better than Brink.

I guess burning the Ticat's D last season wasn't enough to keep Joey in Blue and gold!
