Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week

Canadian Football League Week #11



Toronto, ON – (September 15, 2009) – Jeremaine Copeland, Jim Davis, Luca Congi and Shea Emry were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 11, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson’s Finest CFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

R – Jeremaine Copeland – Calgary Stampeders

Highlights / Key Stats:


Jeremaine Copeland played a solid game for the Calgary Stampeders in their rematch of the Labour Day Classic with the Edmonton Eskimos. Copeland caught five receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

His second touchdown came with just 22 seconds left to play after Henry Burris led the Stampeders on an 85-yard drive in the final minute of the game. Burris capped-off the drive with an 18-yard touchdown to Copeland, leading to the Stamps 35-34 victory.

Copeland leads the league in touchdowns with 11, and is second in receiving yards with 759.

Gibson’s Finest CFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DL – Jim Davis – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 35 @ Edmonton Eskimos 34

Highlights / Key Stats:


Jim Davis had a big game for the Stampeders’ defence this past week, as he compiled four tackles, including three quarterback sacks, and one forced fumble in their victory over the Eskimos.

Davis pressured Eskimos’ quarterback Ricky Ray all night, including a play near the end of the first half where Davis sacked Ray right before he let the pass go to prevent a potential touchdown, and then recovered the fumble in Edmonton territory. Calgary then scored on the following drive to go ahead 17-14 at halftime.

Gibson’s Finest CFL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

K – Luca Congi – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders 55 @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers 10

Highlights / Key Stats:


Luca Congi was perfect on all six of his field goals in the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ victory against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Labour Day Classic rematch.

Congi was good from distances of 33, 8, 32, 29, and two from 40 yards. He was also good on all five of his convert attempts. For the game, Congi had 23 of the Riders’ 55 points.

Shea Emry had a great game for the Alouettes in their victory over the BC Lions in Montreal this weekend, as he compiled six tackles including one quarterback sack.
