Decision Dressler: Receiver re-signs in Riderville | | Official Site of the Canadian Football League

REGINA -- After 48 hours of reviewing offers, former all-star slotback Weston Dressler has opted to return to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, signing a new deal Thursday.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders today announced international wide receiver Dressler has signed with the team. As per club policy terms of the contract were not released.

Dressler returns to Saskatchewan after attending training camp with Kansas City Chiefs where he played three preseason games, recording one 19-yard kickoff return.

The Bismarck, North Dakota native has spent his entire six year pro career with the Green and White. After 98 career regular season games the 29-year-old sits third in franchise history with 442 receptions and 6,536 yards, while his 43 receiving touchdowns rank fifth all-time.

Dressler has surpassed the 1,000 yard receiving mark in five of his six seasons and has been named a West Division All-Star four times (2009, 2011-13) and a CFL All-Star twice (2012-13).

He recorded five receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown as the Riders won the 2013 Grey Cup championship.

Dressler also fielded an offer from the Ottawa REDBLACKS before electing to return to Regina.

Fan Comments
They announced Dressler last for the starting Rider Offense - very classy, for one of the best.

Dressler will do down in the history books as one the greats and have a job here for life - as long as he wants to work. Geroge Reed is still in the province and working for Casino Regina / Moose Jaw as a spokesperson. Dressler knows where the long term $$ and life after football is.

Go Riders Go !

YES, it is!

I can't believe the Riders low balled him, Give him what he wants. Maybe he will stick around at the end of the season.

We don't have the cap and if we did give him that much it would make others in the locker room mad. You can't have an effect team throwing 250 000 at someone other than a quarterback, Ottawa GM is a fool.

They didn't have to mention what he actually signed for dollar wise! If Ottawa was prepared to offer in the range of $250,000 I'm sure he didn't sign for a normal receiver salary with the riders!

Is it so implausible to you that Dressler would think about more than just money when deciding where to sign?
August 28, 2014 - 8:19pm
In a TV interview, Taman said the most he could offer was $200,000. I guess playing for a contender is more important than the cash Ottawa was offering.

Dressler said he didn't want to turn his back on the history he had in Regina and the guys on the team. What a classy classy dude.

As I predicted on this forum ~10 days ago, "Dessler will be back in green by Labour Day"

Every other receiver on our roster should be as stoked as us, especially the new guys! Dressler is a guy who will get double coverage, we've seen them double cover Getz, that leaves Bagg, Smith and Swain (Or whoever else is out on the field) with one man to beat. And thats not even counting whenever they release Allen/Ford/Messam out of the backfield to be a receiver! This is going to open up our offence so much its insane.

Welcome Back! The super exciting CFL will be another notch above those over paid slugs down south. Weston Dressler is a marvelous receiver and great to watch on the field. Mr. Darian has got be be a very happy QB knowing this exemplary talented person will be in his sights once again. This USAF person just loves the CFL!
