Eskimos release Boyd; extend Hill and Ramsay | | Official Site of the Canadian Football League

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Eskimos announced Friday that they have released running back Cory Boyd.  The former Argo registered 447 yards and 2 touchdowns on 82 carries last season. The club also announced that they signed DB TJ Hill and OL Brian Ramsay.

Boyd had an up and down 2012 season after two impressive campaigns with the Toronto Argonauts.  In August, the Argos shocked the entire CFL by releasing the then-leading rusher to make way for Chad Kackert.

The South Carolina product signed almost immediately with the Eskimos but was released halfway through his stay.  He was brought back late in the season for the Eskimos playoff push and started in their Eastern Semi-Final matchup in Toronto.

Boyd was part of a busy backfield which also featured scatback Hugh Charles and non-import power back Jerome Messam.

He played six games for the green and gold, carrying the ball 27 times for 148 yards and a touchdown. He also had four catches for 40 yards.

A defensive standout, Hill played and started in 18 games this season. He racked up 80 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, four knockdowns, two forced fumbles and an interception that he returned 32 yards for a touchdown.
The six-year veteran originally signed with the Eskimos as a free agent on July 21, 2009 and signed a contract extension on April 13, 2011.
Ramsay, meanwhile, played in 17 games with six starts at guard for the green and gold in 2012.  The six-year CFL veteran originally signed on Feb. 16, 2011.

Both players were set to enter free agency on Feb. 15.

Re: Cory Boyd. I guess the Esks are dedicated to proving that you CAN have too much of a good thing. I hope Mr. Boyd catches on with a team that can use him and provide some stability.

I always feared Cory Boyd. If you were rooting for a team and he got the ball, watch out. A great back, I hope he's able to rebound next year.

not bizarre. Good move, the 3-back system did not work. Messam and Charles are the two to go with. Good move releasing Boyd, good moving resigning Hill and Ramsay.
