TORONTO -- The Toronto Argonauts announced today that they have acquired non-import DL Jermaine Reid from the Eskimos, along with Edmonton’s best two 5th round picks in the 2013 CFL Canadian Draft, in exchange for the Argos’ 3rd round draft pick (26th overall) in the Draft.

“Jermaine is an experienced Canadian defensive lineman who will fit well into our defence. We’re excited to bring him home to Toronto and we know he’s very excited to come home,” said Argos GM Jim Barker.

“It’s always difficult to part ways with a third round draft pick, but we believe that the two fifth round picks we received in return, along with Jermaine, will better help us build upon our team’s Canadian talent,” he continued.

The 29-year old veteran defensive lineman, who was born in Scarborough, Ontario, arrives from Edmonton where he signed as a free agent before the 2011 season. Reid played 25 games over two seasons in Edmonton and finished with 24 tackles, one (1) special teams tackle, and three (3) quarterback sacks.

Prior to joining the Esks he spent four seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2007-2011) where he played 44 regular season games made 27 defensive tackles, 1 special teams tackle, 5 quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery. His career CFL numbers are 69 games played with 51 tackles, two (2) special teams tackles, eight (8) quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery.

“I’m extremely excited to come home and be with my friends and family. This move allows those closest to me to stay close and be an even greater part of my family’s life. Having family close by will also help to enhance my focus for the football season. I was an Argonauts fan growing up and I’ve always wanted to play in Toronto. This situation couldn’t be better,” said Reid.

Reid was drafted by Hamilton 9th overall in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft out of the University of Akron. As a member of the Zips, he played 42 games and totalled 130 tackles (67 solo), including 23.5 for 90 yards in losses, and 11.5 quarterback sacks. Jermaine grew up in Scarborough but attended high school at St. Mary’s Catholic H.S. in Pickering, Ontario. He majored in Mechanical Engineering Technology in college and is now a construction engineer in Ohio in the off-season.
