Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos today announced that running back Calvin McCarty has signed a multi-year contract extension.

In 2008, McCarty emerged as one of the CFL’s best homegrown talents and became a key piece of the Eskimo offence. The Western Washington product finished his sophomore campaign with 88 carries for 490 yards and four touchdowns and 70 receptions for 583 yards and one touchdown. He was twice named the CFL’s Top Canadian (September 13, October 4). In the CFL East Semi-Final vs. Winnipeg, McCarty caught seven passes for 52 yards, second among Eskimo receivers.

The Surrey, BC native was a 4th round selection (27th overall) in the 2007 CFL Canadian draft. In 18 games as a rookie, McCarty established a reputation as an excellent special teams player and a pass catching threat out of the backfield with 7 receptions for 99 yards.

“I’m really excited to be back with the Eskimos for the next several seasons,” says McCarty.  “We made huge strides last season and I want to be part of helping to bring another Grey Cup to Edmonton”.

Eskimo General Manager and Director of Football Operations, Danny Maciocia says “We’re only beginning to see how good Calvin can be. I expect him to play an important role with the Eskimos for many seasons”.
