OTTAWA – Keith Shologan was one of eight non-import players selected by the Ottawa REDBLACKS in the second round of the 2013 Ottawa Expansion Draft.

Round 2 Picks: DL Keith Shologan (SSK) | FB Patrick Lavoie (MTL) | OL Joe Eppele (TOR) | OL J'Micheal Deane (CGY) | LB James Green (WPG) | FB John Delahunt (HAM) | OL Alex Krausnick (EDM) | OL Matt Albright (BC) ... View Draft Tracker.

"Our philosophy getting into this is to take the best players, it wasn't going to be a function of offence or defence,'' Ottawa REDBLACKS DM Marcel Dejardins said shortly after making the picks. "Really, we're sticking to that philosophy.''

Shologan played six season, all with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and generated 138 tackles and 15 quarterback sacks.  Last year, he racked up a career-high 31 defensive tackles and 4 sacks while helping the Riders to the 101st Grey Cup.

Patrick Lavoie was drafted by Montreal in 2011 and spent most of his time in the tight end and slotback position.  He hauled in 39 passes for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns.  He impressed in his rookie season where he had 307 yards and 4 touchdowns on 33 receptions.

Joe Eppele was taken second overall in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft by the Argonauts.  The Washington State product was a starter for the majority of his last two seasons in Toronto.

James Green was also a draft pick of Toronto's in 2009 but spent the last few seasons in Winnipeg as a key contributor on special teams.

John Delahunt is an Ottawa native that played his rookie year in Hamilton in 2013.  Lining up primarily as a fullback, he caught 9 passes for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Delahunt a good pick and an Ottawa native but his loss shouldn't hurt the Ticats too much. Walker has speed but is not as versatile a RB as Gable. Not surprised to see Glenn as a Redblack where he is more likely to be given the nod as the starting QB.

I'm glad to see a CFL team in the capital city again. The Ottawa fans should be getting very excited. There have been some pretty good players being selected plus some with promise of being such.

Interesting. Between these draft picks and their signings to date, they have a ton of full-backs & running backs. Looks like their goal is to get the players with the best commercial value and to then capitalize on that value by trading for the players they need. Cory Sheets and John Cornish are demonstrating the value of a solid full back in this league -- I expect some interesting trades to take place over the next few months.
