MONTREAL -- Second-year defensive back Seth Williams and running back Dahrran Diedrick have avoided free agency, inking new deals with the Montreal Alouettes today.
Williams, 26, has spent both of his two years in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes. The Richmond product was thrust into a starting role in 2012, registering 52 tackles and one interception in 14 games.
The 27-year-old cornerback also made one interception which he returned for 37 yards on September 16 opposite the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The second-year Alouette also registered six defensive tackles in a single game twice in 2012. As a rookie, an injury-plagued secondary allowed Williams to break the Alouettes roster, recording 46 defensive tackles and an interception in just ten games.
"Seth has been a solid contributor for us and we feel his game improved steadily with each game he has played," said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp. "The CFL game has slowed down with each game of experience."
Diedrick returns for an eighth season with the Alouettes - ninth in the CFL - in 2013. The 34-year old fullback rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries last season, while also making five special teams' tackles. Previously, Diedrick has been a part of the Alouettes' community programs, notably Together at School with CN and the Alouettes, where he encouraged kids to stay in school while focusing on a wide array of challenges that students face today.
"We welcome Dahrran's leadership and all-around special-teams- and running-back-play," declared Popp. "Dahrran has been a real team player on and off the field."
Hopkins had a fast start with the Alouettes in 2011, registering a pair of sacks in his first game with Montreal. He finished the season with four sacks and 17 defensive tackles in just ten games. The 26-year-old defensive tackle missed the 2012 season due to a blood clot which was removed prior to training camp.
"We look forward to Moton's return. We missed him last year and spent most of the season with a rotation of players, but more importantly, we are very happy Moton is healthy again," said Popp.
