Argonauts Sign LB Shea Emry

TORONTO – After spending the first six years of his CFL career in Montreal, Canadian linebacker Shea Emry has decided to join the rival Toronto Argonauts, reuniting him with defensive coordinator Tim Burke.  The club also announced the signing of non-import offensive lineman Scott Mitchell, formerly of the Edmonton Eskimos.

Emry, 27, was listed as no. 2 on CFL.ca's Top 20 Free Agents list.

"I have many strong relationships with players in Toronto and I know there is a winning culture in the locker room," Emry said. "I am eager to rejoin coaches Scott Milanovich, Tim Burke and Marcus Brady, all of whom I enjoyed playing for previously in Montreal. It was an easy decision to make this move as I believe the organization has been headed in a positive direction. I look forward to training camp and the opportunity to work toward winning another championship."

Since being selected seventh overall by the Alouettes in the 2008 CFL Draft, Emry has quickly established himself as one of the league's premiere linebackers.

The Richmond, BC native has registered 261 tackles, 13 sacks, four interceptions and one touchdown throughout his career, with his best season arriving in 2012.

That season saw he UBC product collect 87 tackles, seven sacks and one interception return for a touchdown, en-route to being named the East Division's Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Most Outstanding Canadian.

Last season, Emry appeared in 17 games, producing 44 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions.

Commented Argonauts General Jim Barker, "Shea is someone who is very familiar to our coaching staff and it was important for us to get him under contract. He is a proven winner and a very good veteran player who we believe will have a strong presence in our locker room. We are very happy to have him with us in Toronto."
