VANCOUVER -- The BC Lions announced this afternoon that import running back Stefan Logan has signed a contract extension with the team.

Logan returned to the Lions in mid-October last season after a four-year stint in the NFL. The speedy running back had originally signed with the Lions in 2008 and played one season before departing for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Stefan demonstrated last season that he gives our offence an added dimension,” said VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono. “His speed, athleticism and football instincts make him a very valuable piece of a championship-calibre team.”

Playing alongside fellow running back Andrew Harris and creating arguably the CFL’s most dynamic pairing in the backfield, Logan had an immediate effect on the team’s running attack upon return to the club rushing for 236 yards on 33 carries in the final three regular season games last year.

The one one-two punch of Harris and Logan boosted the offence’s average rushing yardage to 164 yards per game during that same span.

“Few players are a threat to score each time the ball is in their hands and Stefan is one of those rare players,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “He can give us instant field position on kickoff returns and along with Andrew, create a lot of problems for a defence while providing a ton of options for Khari and the offence.”

Logan has made 15 regular season appearances for the Lions carrying the ball a total of 155 times for 1,125 yards with one touchdown and recording 54 receptions for 494 yards and three majors.

“I am very happy to get this extension done,” said Logan from his Florida home. “We have a very talented team heading into this season and I can’t wait to see what Andrew and I can do together. BC is where I want to be playing and I’m grateful to Wally and Neil McEvoy for making this process an easy one.”

Wonder if Harris is going to be there for the season. He doesn't seem happy with limited playing time.
