WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced the signing of Canadian punter Brett Cameron today, son of legendary Bombers punter Bob.

“Brett is a prospect with great potential at the professional level,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack.  “When it is the right fit, it is always appealing to have local talent within your organization and we look forward to Brett coming in and competing in our training camp.”

Cameron played his high school football at St. Pauls before heading to the University of North Dakota for four seasons. A three year starter at UND, Cameron finished with a career punting average of 40.6 – tied for the second best in school history. He completed his senior season with a career best punting average of 42.1 yards, good for fourth highest in single-season school history.

Throughout his four year career at UND, Cameron landed 57 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 30 punts of 50-yards or longer. His career-long punt was 65 yards during his sophomore year.

You could count on the Bombers gaining 10-15 yards against the Riders with every change of possession. Also the best "into the wind" kicker I ever saw and it matters on the prairies. Couldn't figure out why he didn't go NFL but the shorter field would have worked against him. Hope the son is the class act like his father.

Nice feel-good story.

There should be no PUNTER JOB available for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers until the year 2041, if he's like his old man.
