VANCOUVER -- The BC Lions Football Club announced today that quarterback Buck Pierce has been released.

“Buck has been a consummate professional during his time with our organization and in addition to thanking him for his efforts over the past five seasons we also wish him the very best in the future,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

Originally joining the club as a free agent in 2005, Pierce went on to start 34 of his 86 career games in the CFL, compiling a mark of 21-12-1. He leaves the Leos ranked seventh on the club’s all-time passing list with 8,734 yards and sixth all-time with 692 completions. His career passing efficiency rating of 93.6 is third-best among all Lions quarterbacks behind only Dave Dickenson and Casey Printers.

In 2009, he appeared in 12 of 18 games for the club including the first seven of the season and five consecutive games from September 19th  to October 18th. Buck led the club in passing yards with 2,272 and 10 TD passes including three, 300-yard passing games in 2009, giving him eight for his five-year career.

Sorry to see Buck go. He has the heart of a LION, although I feel it is a good move. Buck is after all, as they say, damaged goods. All the best Buck

Buck was amazing in his last game in Edmonton. B.C. had blown a lead and the fans were leaving as the Eskies came from behind to lead. Then with only a couple of minutes left, Buck took complete control of the field like a general and destroyed the Eskimoes in a series of plays which colminated with Lion's victory. As a fan since 1954 I want to say thank you, Buck and all the best. You gave us all you had and often it was thrilling and brilliant. Someone had to go, I am sorry it was you. The guts just left B.C.

Buck, sad to see you go. You are great I hope a another team finally gives you the chance that the Lions never did, to be a undisputed starter of a team. To quote Any Given Sunday "He didn't have your natural abilities, but he could make it happen, he was one tough son of a b**ch" As a lion fan I will miss you, good luck wherever you end up!!!!

Never quite caught on with me. Didn't inspire a lot of the fans, and I'm not sure he did with the players either. Great to say that his passing efficiency record was 93.6%, but then even I can throw a lot of 6-8 yard passes with accuracy. In the CFL with three downs, you need someone that can throw the long ball, and have the deep threat, Bucky Boy didn't have it!

Im glad he gets 2 go else were. Wally needs 2 look at how many hits he and all your QBs took. Buck will be just fine. He is as tuff as they come. Lions
will see they messed up giving up on Buck!!

I'm not happy about this. I bet you could have found 30,000 fans to throw in 5 dollars each to pay Buck his bonus, if that's what it came down to. I am a lifelong Lions fan and always will be, but I have to express my extreme displeasure at such a heartless move. Buck led by example and showed what it takes in the way of self sacrifice and dedication to win. Just wait until Casey refuses to play with a sore thumb and see how that ripples through the team. Just saying. I wish Buck and the Lions well, but this move is just not good.

I agree with the previous comment, the O line needs to protect the QB. Buck, Dave, concusion? Do we have a pattern here?

Yes he is finally gone maybe we have shot with him out don't get me wrong he is a good back up but he is no starter i think travis lulay is way better QB then he is but i hope it all works out for him somewhere else it now time for casey to shine and now we need to make some adjustments to our run defence and we are all good (sign barrin simpson)
