VANCOUVER -- Less than a week after being released by the Lions, Canadian kicker Hugh O'Neill has signed on with the Edmonton Eskimos on Monday.
O'Neill was selected in the second round, 11th overall by the Lions in the 2011 Draft. The Edmonton, AB native was primarily used as a backup to veteran kicker Paul McCallum in his three years with the team.
An injury to McCallum earlier this season allowed O'Neill to see some playing time, however. In two games, the 23-year-old connected on four of his five field goal attempts and was good on six of his seven extra points.
He also handled punting duties for the Lions in three games this season.
