VANCOUVER -- BC Lions general manager Wally Buono announced today the signing of import defensive back Tad Kornegay.

Kornegay will report to the Lions' practice roster.

Last week, Kornegay was released from the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Fordham product spent the last four seasons in Saskatchewan and was extremely popular among his teammates. He was part of the team's Grey Cup championship squad in 2007.

Saskatchewan general manager Brendan Taman indicated the Roughriders tried unsuccessfully to trade Kornegay before deciding to release him outright.

Kornegay was likely brought in to help the 0-5 Lions, who have been struggling so far this season.
