CALGARY -- The Calgary Stampeders have added depth behind centre, officially announcing the signing of quarterback Adrian McPherson Tuesday.

“I’m very pleased to be able to add a quarterback with Adrian’s experience and skill set,” said Hufnagel. “As we saw last season, depth at the quarterback position is vital and I believe Adrian provides excellent competition.”

McPherson played five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes (2008-12) before signing with the Arena Football League’s Tampa Bay Storm in 2013. In five seasons and 80 regular-season games with Montreal, where he served as Anthony Calvillo’s backup and the short-yardage quarterback, McPherson recorded 1,035 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. He completed 145 of 243 passing attempts for 1,505 yards and 10 touchdowns.

McPherson played eight post-season games for the Alouettes and was a member of Grey Cup-winning teams in 2009 and 2010.

With Tampa Bay in 2013, McPherson accounted for 90 touchdowns — 59 throwing and 31 rushing. Prior to coming to Montreal, he also spent time with Arena league teams in Indiana, Austin and Grand Rapids. He was selected in the fifth round (152nd overall) by the New Orleans Saints in the 2005 National Football League draft.

The six-foot-three, 220-pound native of Bradenton, Fla., played two seasons at Florida State before turning pro.

“The Stampeders have been one of the top teams since I first came to the CFL and I’m excited to come to Calgary,” said McPherson. “I look forward to meeting my new teammates and to working with Coach Hufnagel and Coach Dickenson.”

I knew he'd be back. Just thought it would be with the Al's once Anthony retired. Oh well, Troy Smith is in the Mtl picture so I wish Adrian all the best out West.

Great signing. But now 3 in camp? I sense a trade? No way you can keep all three happy if Tate is back. Going to be a good season. (Football needs to start next week!!)

As Huff has proven in the past, he can win with any solid or above average QB. Each of the three QB's will see action in the 2014 season. Smart move by Huff.

@dt26: let's be fair to O'Shea here!! this isn't huffy out smarting O'Shea!! huffy is a HC and GM while O'Shea is just a HC!! GMs make all the player moves NOT HCs!!

And why would O'Shea/Walters want to sign another mediocre QB who is clearly not good enough to be an effective starter in the CFL?? The BBs already have a couple of such QBs on their roster.

These are the players that the Blue Bombers need to start acting upon. Common BBs, I don't want another disappointing season!

Tate going to be No.1 barring injury. That's a big "IF"!! Tate has more experience and is a good QB barring his childish behavior. Mitchell will give him a run and may easily start when the "Glass Man" goes down. Adrian will go short yardage/TD's, etc. Huff again makes a smart move.
