Messam confident he can return to 2011 form | | Official Site of the Canadian Football League Staff

MONTREAL -- Jerome Messam is on a personal path to redemption.

Traded to the Alouettes Tuesday in exchange for a sixth-round pick  in the 2013 Canadian draft, the former Most Outstanding Canadian took to Social Media to voice his plans for the upcoming 2013 campaign.

Suffice to say, Messam is heading into the new season with the mentality that he is still very capable of making a difference on the gridiron. In fact, it was only two years ago that Messam terrorized opposing defences to the tune of 1,057 yards and six touchdowns.

His new team is hoping that the 27-year-old Brampton, ON. native can duplicate his 2011 exploits.

"We are pleased to have Jerome join our team. We look forward to helping Jerome regain his form from his MOP season in 2011,” explained Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp.

“Jerome should add another dimension to our ever-changing offence. It will be fun to watch our new offensive coaches implement these newly-acquired offensive players with our current group of outstanding players.”

Messam's arrival in La Belle Province is the latest in a series of moves that have brought the Als into the spotlight this off-season.

Since the 2012 season came to an end, the Als have added receiver Arland Bruce, DB Byron Parker, QB Quinton Porter and Canadian pivot Kyle Quinlan. They have also waved goodbye to several players as well, as QB Adrian McPherson, WR Brian Bratton and KR Trent Guy were all released.

It's still unclear as to where Messam fits in Montreal's plans for 2013. Incumbent tailback Brandon Whitaker remains unsigned with the free agency deadline looming and Chris Jennings is also likely to return after posting impressive numbers while Whitaker recovered from an injury.

Regardless, Messam will be given a chance to play in Montreal, an opportunity he may not have received in Edmonton.

“We thank Jerome for what he brought to the team. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to continue on a successful path,” said Eskimo Head Coach Kavis Reed.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Whitaker still an unsigned free agent?

First Maccioca, then Tillman (what the Heck was that all about??). Eskimo fans deserve better. Ricky Ray trade looks even more bizarre one year later. Here's hoping they find a QB in Reilly. But a Canadian talent like Messam? I'll take that trade. It'll be a competitive training camp in Ste. Hyacinthe (where do the Als hold camp now, A.R.?)

and Popp is doing his thing: sign a whole bunch of prospects and let them fight it out for the jobs. Remember the Ahman Green signing? Messam can get in a Big Pile of Trouble in Montreal. The Clubs never close.

I don't know how they are all going play. Messam is not going to fill the aging staunch warrior, Dahrain Deidrick's shoes. Different mentality. Players may have to be patient. Not Messam's forte. Pray that Whitaker returns to form, and then we need a Banger. Jennings was impressive. I've been yelling at the Als to run the ball more, ever since A.C. arrived and the Aerial Circus began. Looks like I might finally get my wish. for

I am impressed by your inside Als info, A.R. That's great! I was a big Mike Pringle fan. He used to fight with A.C. to give him the ball, and make it a good Hand-off. I love Defence and a Run Game. Don't get me wrong, A.C. has had a great career, but the Als coulda/shoulda/woulda won a couple more Cups with the great teams we've had. Now, he is more and more physically vulnerable. You can knock him over easy.

Seems like a mistake for the Eskimos. Last year can't be used for any real comparisions after the embarrasing coaching decisions regarding the RB carousel. Good luck Jerome!!

Als won't be out much if Messam is a bust. If he succeeds, then they they have made a shrewd deal.
