WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced today the re-signing of Canadian fullback Michel-Pierre Pontbriand.
Pontbriand was scheduled to become a free agent in February, after spending the past three seasons with the Blue Bombers. Throughout those three seasons, he has been a steadfast blocker on offence and a solid special teams player. He’s recorded six receptions for 114 yards, and 18 special teams tackles (10 in 2012, eight in 2013).
“Michel-Pierre is a great asset for us as a Canadian player, who understands our league, is a great teammate and locker room guy, and a player who works extremely hard every day,” said General Manager Kyle Walters.
The Bombers announced the signings of import defensive back Josh Francis and non-import wide receiver Julian Feoli-Gudino. As per team policy, details of the agreement are not disclosed.
Francis played two seasons at West Virginia, and totaled 4.5 sacks, 54 tackles, and 39 solo tackles. Francis originally went to West Virginia as an All-American junior college transfer and started both years there.
Feoli-Gudino was originally drafted 38th overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft. He returned to school for his final year of eligibility the following season and signed with the Argos for the 2012 season. Feoli-Gudino played in seven games with the Argonauts in 2012, mainly on special teams. He also played sparingly in a special teams role in 2013 with the Argos. He spent five seasons as a starter at Laval Rouge et Or (2007-2011), finishing his career as the second-leading pass catcher in CIS history (238) and with the twelfth-most receiving yards (2,756). He was a four-Time First-Team QUFL All-Star and two-time All-Canadian. In 2008, he was named the MVP of the Vanier Cup game when he scored a 74-yard punt return touchdown and an 82-yard receiving touchdown.
