REGINA -- It didn't take long for Ken Miller to catch on to Twitter.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach and vice-president of football operations has been a member of the social networking service for a week. Miller has been busy posting tweets about the happenings with the team and other events.

"I never thought that I would do it," the 68-year-old Miller said Monday with a chuckle. "But it's like I've told other people, 'If you're going to surf, you have to stay in the curl.' If you're going to coach, you have to stay on the front end of communications."

Miller's tweets run the gamut from the team's status heading into the CFL evaluation camp in Toronto on the weekend to congratulating Riders veterans Mike McCullough and Neal Hughes on the births of their children. On Monday, Miller tweeted when newly hired offensive line coach Tom Freeman was expected to arrive in Regina and that all of the coaches will be in the office Wednesday.

"There may be some things about personnel and things of personal interest that aren't normally written about," said Miller when asked about the content of his tweets. "There is some insider information that other outlets wouldn't look to print."

Miller isn't the only CFL head coach to join Twitter. Wally Buono, general manager and head coach of the B.C. Lions, is also part of the network. Miller's tweets can be found at (twitter.com») Buono's thoughts can be found at (twitter.com»)

Miller didn't attend the CFL's evaluation camp but the Riders were well represented.

Alex Smith, the Riders' linebackers coach and CFL draft co-ordinator, submitted a thorough report to Miller on what those who had attended observed while in Toronto.

"There are times when Alex is a hard guy to impress but he felt athletically it was the best group of athletes that we've had in some time," said Miller. "Some of the strongest groups there were the positions that generally have the longest tenure in the CFL -- that's the receivers and the offensive line. They also saw some outstanding defensive players, particularly at linebacker."

That bodes well for the Riders because two of their four picks in the draft are in the first round. The Riders are to select second and fourth overall in the draft, which is to be held on May 2.

The Roughriders are expected to reveal plans for their 2010 training camp this week. The team has been examining the logistics of holding training camp in Regina or Saskatoon. Rookie camp is June 2 and the main training camp is to open June 6.
