REGINA -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced today they have released international running back, Hugh Charles.

Charles joined the Riders before Week 3 and was the feature back in their game against the BC Lions. With 13 rushes for 86 yards Charles was the leading rusher for the Riders in the game.

The Tulsa, OK will now seek a spot on his third team this year after being released by the Edmonton Eskimos in training camp.

The move comes amid rumours that the Riders are close to signing former Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Will Ford that would add to a stable of running backs that includes 2011 Most Outstanding Canadian Jerome Messam and the CFL's leading rusher Anthony Allen.

The Roughriders would also announced the release of international linebacker Adrian Moten and international defenwsive lineman Richard Sumlin.

Sumlin signed with the Riders in 2013 while Moten signed during the offseason of 2014. Neither would play a game for the Riders this year.

Seems to me there is a bit of panic in Riderville.

Well last year they started great and stumbled near the end. This year it'll be the opposite. True Rider fans keep the faith. After signing Messam we just didn't have a use for this guy any more.

Missed blocking assignments are a problem for charles in that game. If DD gets hit and hurt it doesnt matter who carries the ball. There are three other backs of the same caliber on the roster and one is a Canadian so it would be smart to let him go. The game wasnt resting on his shoulders to win but he is responsible for his positional responsibility.

Give me a break. They're searching for a consistent back and they thought Charles would fit the bill. He didn't, plus we got Messam, so he's gone. No biggy.

"Charles ... was the feature back in their game against the BC Lions. With 13 rushes for 86 yards Charles was the leading rusher for the Riders ..." Yeah but he didn't win the game for them all by himself so he's got to go. It's a tough business.
