TORONTO -- The new Ottawa franchise has made their first ever draft selection, taking Iowa offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan.  He was selected in the first round, 8th overall in the 2013 CFL Draft.

MacMillan, 22, joins the Ottawa after starring on the Hawkeyes' offensive line for four seasons. He missed the entire 2011 campaign with an injury.

The six-foot-six, 290-pound Toornto, ON native ranked sixth on April's CFL Scouting Bureau rankings, jumping up four spots from December's Top 15.

“First of all, I’d like to say it’s an honour for me and our entire organization to represent the great football fans of the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa Valley and the Outaouais Region at the Draft,” said Ottawa GM Marcel Desjardins. “We’ve received tremendous support and we’re looking forward with great excitement to our opening kick-off at the New Lansdowne Park in 2014.”

"Nolan showed us that he has a lot of promise and we’re looking forward to seeing him at our camp next year, ” said Ottawa GM Marcel Desjardins.

The Ottawa franchise has the opportunity to pick a total of 4 NCAA underclassmen (players with NCAA eligibility remaining) with the last pick in the first 4 rounds of this year's CFL draft (9th, 18th, 27th and 36th overall).  Next year, as a full-fledged member of the league, the team will have the first pick in all rounds.
