Ottawa trades Glenn to BC for 5th overall pick | | Official Site of the Canadian Football League

OTTAWA -- After trading away the first overall selection to the Calgary Stampeders, the Ottawa REDBLACKS are back in the first round.

Tuesday, the team made another blockbuster deal, acquiring the fifth overall pick in the 2014 Draft from the BC Lions in exchange for QB Kevin Glenn.

The move comes just over two months after Glenn requested a trade out of Ottawa, as a result of the team signing veteran QB Henry Burris.

The five-foot-11, 205-pound Glenn was 20-8 as a starter replacing the injured Drew Tate over two seasons with Calgary.

He guided the Stampeders to a Grey Cup berth in 2012 and top spot in the West Division in '13 with a league-best record.

More to come...

@TF: Glen appeared fine being the "backup" in Calgary. The difference in Calgary is he got to compete for the starting position. Ottawa publicly said there would be no competition -- Burris was their starter. If BC promises Glen he can compete for a starting position, I'm sure he'll be happy there no matter how it turns out. Glen just wants a fair shake.

@RD - When was Glenn ever given a chance to compete for the starting role? Even when he played most of 2012 Tate was still considered the starter when it came to the playoffs! Glenn was only named as the #1 le last season. BC may allow him to compete but are they really going to sit Lulay with his large salary if he is well enough to play? Looks to be pretty much the same situation as Ottawa to me!

Glenn may get more playing time behind Lulay than he would have behind Burris but he is likely still a bit disappointed at the label "back up" when it appeared he would be a starter this season in Ottawa.

Looks like Lulay will make it through the year...I say this because in my opinion Glenn is as good as if not better the Lulay...And if Glenn is giving a fair shake in camp...He will be the starter...

Hey Bubble boy...You sayin Glenn's not worth a first round pick....Last time I looked The cfl is run like a business as it pertains to what needs to be done year in,year out...Lets see .who would I rather have Glenn or Johnson...You go girl....

No doubt he'll make a great backup to Travis Lulay, but does he really want to be a backup? But given Lulay's shoulder problems, he may play a more prominent role.
