Ottawa Unveils Signature Uniforms
Ottawa REDBLACKS Staff

OTTAWA -- The Ottawa REDBLACKS today announced the availability of the team's third jersey, part of the team's CFL Signature Uniform which will be worn for the first time on Sunday, August 24th when the REDBLACKS host the Calgary Stampeders.
The jersey is red, with a REDBLACKS saw blade logo on the front and REDBLACKS lumberjack plaid on the shoulders. The uniform pants are black with REDBLACKS lumberjack plaid trim and "Ottawa" in script on one leg.
The uniform will be topped-off by a REDBLACKS plaid helmet with no other markings when the REDBLACKS play the team's second game in the Signature Uniform later in the season.
The 3rd jersey is available for fans at the REDBLACKS team store, 841 Bank Street (Fifth Avenue Court) or online at
"The new jersey and the signature uniform put the red in REDBLACKS," said Jeff Hunt, President of OSEG Sports, the REDBLACKS parent company.

"It's also another connection to the history of Ottawa/Gatineau as a region founded by the lumber industry, just like our "R" logo with its sawblade background.  Reebok did a great job creating that tie with our past in a progressive new design that I think will appeal to our new generation of fans.  And when you look at the uniform, right away you think REDBLACKS!"
The CFL-wide Signature Uniform program began some 18 months ago when Reebok was challenged by the league to develop bold new uniforms for all teams to represent the league's bright and bold future.

The BC Lions were first to debut a Signature Uniform last season and all other teams are following this season.  Each CFL team will wear new signature uniforms twice this season. The REDBLACKS' second date for wearing them will be confirmed at a later date.

These so-called signature uniforms are worse than any arena football uniform....and they are bad!

What next ? Simulated blue jeans, construction boots? Then, the players would be able to put on their plaid helmets and join the construction workers and finish the stadium.

Plaid helmets !!! Why not add simulated blue jeans and construction boots also, then the players can continue working on the stadium with construction workers.

I really like the plaid because it IS kind of unusual (and what's more Canadian than a mackinaw?). The purpose of these uniforms seems to be to do something bold and risky. They'll probably be worn for just a couple of games; I don't know why everyone's complaining -- it's not like anyone's being forced to buy one of the 3rd jerseys.

The plaid is an awful touch. I'm sure there are much better ways to honour the region's cultural history.

Yet another team that decided to put their logo on the front where the player numbers should be. I get that it's supposed to represent that the team comes before the player but it's hell on the media trying to figure who's who on the field.

I also don't agree with the statement that you immediately think "Redblacks" when you see the uniform. Yes, there's a lot of red and black but I can see a lot of people confusing these for Stampeder uniforms.

Aside from that, I don't mind them.

Given the Stamps record since Huff took over as GM/HC I would think not just Ottawa want to look like the Stampeders ! LOL
Seriously the Plaid helmets look just awful. Maybe instead of black jeans they should be wearing a Plaid Kilt ! LOL

Maybe if the kept the sawblade design on the front but put the player's numbers in it instead of the R. I got used to the Cincinnati Bengals' tiger striped helmets so I guess I can get used to the RedBlack's plaid helmets.
