TORONTO -- Henry Burris, Demond Washington, Will Ford and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week for Week 11 of the 2013 Canadian Football League season.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 11. Burris completed 25-of-35 passes for 375 yards and a season-high four touchdowns to help the Tiger-Cats reach the .500 mark with a 37-29 win at home over the Lions.
Burris product threw four touchdown passes from 37, 32, 23 and 6 yards, and also ran three times for 12-yards.
Through 11 weeks into the season, Burris has a comfortable lead atop of the passing yards list with 3,181 and is tied for second in touchdown passes with 18.
Burris is closing in on a significant milestone; he is 217 passing yards short of reaching 50,000 career passing yards to become the fifth CFL quarterback to reach the 50,000 yards club.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Demond Washington was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 11. Washington had a game-high 7 tackles, two special teams tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in the Blue Bombers 25-13 win in the Banjo Bowl over Roughriders
Washington was able to hop on a fumble forced by Pierre-Luc Labbé and return it two yards, which led to a Justin Goltz touchdown run to give the Blue Bombers a 23-13 advantage.
The former Auburn Tiger, is second on the Blue Bombers in tackles (47), tied for first with interceptions (1) and fifth in sacks (2).
Winnipeg Blue Bombers kick returner Will Ford was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 11. Ford returned two kickoffs for 119 yards including a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown, after a Saskatchewan field goal to give the Blue Bombers an early 7-3 lead in the first quarter.
Ford, the all-time rushing leader at South Carolina State University, is second on the Blue Bombers in kick-off return yards with 420.
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 11. Cornish was a dual-offensive threat in the win against the Eskimos on Friday night. Cornish rushed for 131 yards on 14 carries and also caught 6 passes for 46 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown reception to open up the scoring in the first quarter.
The New Westminster, B.C. native is currently second in the league in rushing with 940 yards and tied for first with eight rushing touchdowns and also has 22 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns this season.
This is Cornish’s third Canadian Player of the Week honour this season, with the two prior coming in Week 1 and Week 7. Cornish also won Canadian Player of the Month for July and won Offensive Player of the Week in Week 7.
