Pair of Jacksons lead Players of the Week

Toronto, ON – (July 23, 2008) – Kerry Joseph, Reggie Hunt, Tristan Jackson and Paris Jackson were named the CFL’s top players for week #4, the Canadian Football League announced today.

Players of the Week are selected for on-field excellence by members of the Canadian football broadcasters.

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

QB – Kerry Joseph – Toronto Argonauts

Highlights / Key Stats:

Kerry Joseph had his best day as a Toronto Argonaut as he led them to a home win over the Eskimos. Joseph was 22 of 38 (58%) for 343 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Joseph also ran for a league high 118 yards on 10 carries and one rushing touchdown. Joseph and the Argos received the ball on their own one yard line with just over 90 seconds remaining down by three points. Joseph then led a textbook drive, going the distance and capping it off by calling his own number from 13 yards out for the game winning score with 24 seconds left.

On the season, Joseph is 74 for 126 (58.7%) for 839 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions for a 76.8 passer efficiency rating. He has also rushed 23 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LB – Reggie Hunt – Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes 33 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 41

Highlights / Key Stats:

Reggie Hunt recorded eight tackles, a sack and two interceptions in the Alouettes narrow loss to the Riders. Hunt had an interception in the first quarter, and then picked off Darian Durant’s first pass of the second half. His eight tackles included four on RB Wes Cates and two on Darian Durant.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Highlights / Key Stats:

Tristan Jackson was a factor in all facets of the kicking game as he scored on a 94-yard kick return, had a 64-yard missed field goal return and returned three punts for 18 yards. Jackson drastically impacted the Argo kicking game, forcing them to angle punts away from him and move to a short kickoff strategy. Jackson had 187 special teams’ yards.

On the season, Jackson has 244 punt return yards, 265 kick return yards, 64 missed-field goal yards and an 89-yard interception returned for a touchdown. This is Jackson’s second straight special teams player of the week honour.

 CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 WR – Paris Jackson – B.C. Lions

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 18 @ B.C. Lions 27

Highlights / Key Stats:

Paris Jackson had six catches for 114 yards including a 56 yarder as his B.C. Lions defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Bob Ackles night at B.C. Place. Jackson also had a kick return for 17 yards.

On the season Paris Jackson is sixth in the CFL with 286 receiving yards on 15 catches for a 15.9 yard average.
