EDMONON -- Eskimos wide receiver Nate Coehoorn was impatient.

“I was always the go-to-guy, whether it was minor football, high school junior or university,” says Coehoorn.

“My first three years (in the CFL) have been a long process. I’ve learned so much each year. This experience has really tested my character. I’ve grown a lot as a player and feel I will continue to grow.”

After starring with the University of Calgary Dinos for four seasons (2007-10), Coehoorn was an Eskimos first round pick in the 2010 CFL Draft.

His development has shown a steady growth. Coehoorn has gone from an observer during his rookie season recording just two catches, to one of the Eskimos’ primary Canadian receivers. In 2013, Coehoorn achieved career-highs in receptions (49) and yards (646) in 18 games

“I felt more part of the team (in 2013). There’s that strong bond with my teammates and I’ve gained their trust.”

As a young football player, the Medicine Hat product looked up to former CFL star Jason Clermont.

Entering his fourth season, the 27-year-old is on the cusp of becoming an elite Canadian receiver in the CFL.

Coehoorn’s biggest strengths are his ability to make tough catches and his physical play away from the ball.

“Whether I have the ball in my hands or not, every play I want to make some kind of impact and contribute. So, if that means taking a big hit to catch a ball or making a big pop on a defender to help us I’m willing to do that 100%.”

Coehoorn’s locker is sandwiched between all-star slotbacks Fred Stamps and Adarius Bowman and he’s made a strong effort to emulate parts of the veteran’s games.

“There are a lot of things that both Fred and Adarius do that are just second nature to them, but I’ve picked up on those little things and it’s helped me become a better receiver,” says Coehoorn.

“It just comes down to being patient and putting the work in. I couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming season.
