MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes have signed import running backs Emmanuel Marc and Chris Jennings to the team's practice roster.

The moves come one day after they announced that Brandon Whitaker would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Marc ejoins Montreal after spending the 2010 season on the team’s practice roster, helping Montreal win the Grey Cup in November. The 29-year old was also on the team’s active roster in 2011 but did not dress for a game.

The Spring Valley, NY native joined the Alouettes at the beginning of the 2010 season after spending training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He had previously signed professional contracts with the Miami Dolphins and the BC Lions.

In college, Marc rewrote the Hudson Valley Vikings’ record book after rushing for 3,273 yards and scoring 30 touchdowns in his career. His rushing yardage total eclipsed the previous record of 1,724 yards set by Dennis Greene. Marc was also named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year following the 2003 season.

Jennings also returns to the Alouettes after having spent part of the 2009 season on the team’s practice roster behind Avon Cobourne and Brandon Whitaker. The Alouettes released him as a good gesture in August, allowing him to sign the Cleveland Browns with whom he played nine games over two seasons gaining 220 yards on the ground on 63 rushes, including one touchdown, while adding 56 yards on nine receptions. Jennings also suited up for the Hartford Colonials of the UFL in 2010.

In other roster moves, the Alouettes announced the release of non-import receiver Liam Mahoney from the practice roster.

Since both backs are known to the Als from past seasons with them I assume that they must have confidence in them or they wouldn't bring them back, they'd get others instead. Still, it would be a real surprise if either one was the equal of Whitaker. I'm sure there will have to a readjustment of offensive tactics to allow for this. Maybe some other poster will comment on this.

please stop spouting nonsense for once. victor anderson has proved himself as a legit backup. he's been used a bunch in the games due to his good game in which he got the start when Whitaker was hurt earlier. he might not be as good, but he'll be decent. the others are insurance in case #20 gets hurt too... in which case we're probably in trouble
