HAMILTON -- Zach Collaros didn't have to look very far to find his new CFL home.

Just one day after being released by the Toronto Argonauts, Collaros has found himself a new home in the CFL, signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the team announced Thursday.

“Zach is a very talented quarterback with a great future in front of him. He’s a dedicated, proven winner and a natural leader with tremendous character.  We are very excited that he has chosen to join our football team,” said General Manager and Head Coach Kent Austin.

As a result of Collaros' arrival, the team parted ways with veteran quarterback Henry Burris.

Collaros, 25 , Dan LeFevour, Jeremiah Masoli, Stephen McGee and Brian Brohm as the team's quarterbacks.

Burris was slated to become a free agent on Feb. 15.

In 14 games last season, seven of which he started, Collaros threw for an impressive 2,316 yards and 14 touchdowns, completing 66.2 per cent of his passes in the process.

His best game through the air came in Week 13 against Calgary, when he threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Boatmen to a 33-27 win.

Collaros also proved to be effective on the ground, rushing 59 times for 246 yards and five touchdowns.

The former Cincinnati Bearcat won five of seven contests while Ricky Ray recovered from a shoulder injury.

“I’m very excited to join the Tiger-Cats. This team has all the pieces in place for success now and in the future,” said Collaros. “I can’t wait to work with the players, coaches and staff in Hamilton and play in front of an outstanding fan base at Tim Hortons Field.”

Burris, meanwhile, leaves Hamilton after leading them to an appearance in the 101st Grey Cup in Regina.

The 38-year-old had a strong year under centre for the Ticats, leading the league in passing yards with 4,925, along with 24 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Burris first arrived in Hamilton after spending seven years in Calgary. He was acquired by the Ticats in 2012 in exchange for Kevin Glenn, now of the REDBLACKS.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to come on and applaud what I think is a great move by Hamilton in signing Collaros. No offense intended against Burris and I admit I'm not speaking from a position of great knowledge being from south of the border and having just become a CFL fan over the past season, but I did see Collaros play several times at Cincinnati. I wish Burris well, but I also applaud this move by Hamilton.

So tired of certain people slagging Burris. Burris and the Tabbies took the season series over Winnipeg, the season series with Montreal AND the season series with Toronto, beat Montreal in the semis and beat Toronto in the final, all the way to the GreyCup. Far better than your teams and qb's. Show Henry a little respect and credit.

Hank has been a better QB than most of the QB's that have played in the CFL. They didn't have a chance in the GC, with or without Austin. Austin is average, but for the CFL he's a genius. Popp is below average. When he took over the Als, what did he do that was innovative to either side of the ball. From coast to coast very few people know football. The only thing that's discussed is a $300-500K salary. The absolute minimum in the NFL. What's needed is Football 101 from coast to coast.

One of the things that's lost in this transaction is Burris completed passes and threw for TD's. He did this throughout his career and did a good job. I'm sure he broke a lot your hearts on a regular basis. He doesn't play defense and never did. He didn't make one tackle in the GC. He didn't allow one pass completion. Give the guy a break. He'll give Ti-Cats Hell wherever he goes

@H123: what a silly comment about HB not playing defence!! please explain why then fans from coast to coast including cat fans also see HB as a poor example of a QB?!!

I don't care who's back there behind the O-line. If they can't protect him it'll be another disappointing season. Don't count too much on QB running either. Once the D's get used to it they can stop. Ask San Francisco.

Another disappointing season??? They made it to the Grey Cup game for the first time in 14 years! Sure it would have been better if they had won but disappointing was 2012!

Austin should shelf Fantuz and Guigere. Both could hold Weston Dressler jersey.

Good chance the Argos are kicking themselves for the next decade. Happy for Collaros but hate that its the Ti-cats. I wonder what kind of deal he got.

Good chance that the Argos will be but short of getting rid of Ricky Ray, what else could they do? And you KNOW that wasn't going to happen. Ricky's injuries last season gave Collaros a chance to showcase his talents and Austin definitely took notice. Collaros was going look for a starters role regardless.

Absolutely. I can't blame Collaros and certainly can't blame Hamilton. Toronto did the right thing by letting him walk early, no need to delay the inevitable. I know after last years training camp Collaros and Trevor Harris were neck in neck and Harris looked really good against Montreal last year. Here's to hoping we have our backup and you guys got your starter!

I actually expected this. Why would he want to go to Winnipeg? Austin wants his own guy and Burris definitely wasn't it.

passing yards sound great, but! put it beside interceptions and fumbles and a story emerges. 2 games come to mind, burris 400yds passing..3 interceptions and 2 fumbles, both loses. zach 280 yds passing..1 interception, no fumbles, both wins. says it all, when austin says the offence has to protect the ball, I know what hes talking about
