REGINA --The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have re-signed import defensive lineman Tearrius George and have released veteran safety James Patrick, kicker Sandro DeAngelis and receiver Clay Cooke.

Financial details were not released.

George , who was eligible to be a free-agent February 15th, returns to the Riders for his third season. Last year, the Fayetteville, NC native appeared in all 18 games registering 18 defensive tackles, six quarterback sacks and one recovered fumble.

The six year CFL veteran originally entered the league in 2007 with the Calgary Stampeders. He spent the 2008 season with the Chicago Bears before returning to Calgary for 2009 and 2010. For his career, George has totaled 95 defensive tackles and 21 quarterback sacks.

Patrick, meanwhile, is released after spending the previous five seasons with the Riders. While with the Green and White, the Tuskeege, AL native played 86 career games, registering 227 defensive tackles, 18 interceptions and two quarterback sacks.

DeAngelis joined the Riders in August and went on to play 13 regular season games and the West Semi-Final. The eight year CFL veteran connected on 30 of 39 field goal attempts last season.

Cooke will not be invited back after spending most of last season on the practice roster as an eligible junior.

No surprise that D'Angelis has been released - too much ego and not enough accuracy. I don't see him landing anywhere else anytime soon - if at all!

Called Patrick coming out about midway through the season. I dont know if the scheme was wrong or he lost a step but he was not the safety he used to be these last 2 years. With Butler being non-import AND a playmaker anytime he walks on the field it would be crazy to stunt his growth playing him behind Patrick. George was a no brainer as he was easily the most consistent run defender and pass rusher the Riders have. DeAngelis was a huge disappointment as a placekicker. When you hold the all time accuracy record you cant come in and shank short field goals in clutch moments. Milo is a heck of a punter but I really think the Riders need to look into getting a full time kicker, isnt Coach Chamlains motto that no one does 2 jobs? Finally with all the depth and "potential" (a dangerous word) at the Riders receiver position Cooke was just not ready.
