CALGARY -- Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import linebacker Rod Davis has signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In other transactions, the Stampeders have released import defensive lineman Anwar Stewart and import receiver/kick returner Jason Armstead.

Davis is a four-year CFL veteran who recorded 35 tackles, four special-teams tackles, five sacks, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions in 16 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2012.

The Gulfport, Miss., native spent the first three seasons of his CFL career in Edmonton and registered 149 tackles, 22 special-teams tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and five interceptions in 41 regular-season games for the Eskimos.

He also appeared in three playoff contests for Edmonton and accumulated 14 tackles.

“With Rod having spent the majority of his career up the road in Edmonton, I am very familiar with his abilities,” said Hufnagel. “He’s an excellent addition to our team and I look forward to seeing him perform in a Stampeders uniform.”

Prior to coming to the CFL, Davis played three seasons in the National Football League and played a total of 40 games — 39 for the Minnesota Vikings and one for Carolina Panthers. He has also played for the Philadelphia Soul in the Arena Football League. Prior to turning pro, Davis starred at Southern Mississippi and was twice a first-team all-Conference USA player.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to be a Stampeder,” said Davis. “It’s a team I know very well from my days in Edmonton and all the games we played against Calgary. It’s great to get a chance now to wear the red and white.”

Watched the Dan Hawkins interview. 180 degrees different from Mark Trestman's style. Should be an interesting "New Era", but likely with a lot of familiar players. Probably only moderate personnel changes on Offence.RB by committee?
Some spots up for grabs on D. What?! A Kick Returner.

A.R.,I really know nothing about cricket, but I know Fubol, Brother Larkster. There is no Als House-Cleaning here. We're keeping almost all of our talented group of D players (Adios,#33), and added a few new studs. Jeff's gone, OK, it didn't work. Many the Slip betwixt Lip and Coupe Grey, but I'm confident in our talented roster of players, and the new coaching staff. You heard it here from Ye Olde Perfesser - ALS will ROCK!!!!

Only occasional flashes with the Als, often lackluster. I was disappointed with his play. In fairness,he was injured at one point. Hope he helps those Red Cowboys, but not too much. (Get ride of those awful black unis!!)

Agree with these roster moves by Huffer. The Armstead release was expected, but I thought Anwar Stewart did an OK job and was maybe going to hang around for the '13 season.
Very pleased to have Rod Davis play for the Red Horsemen. The club is sure shaping up well. Just need to figure out that blurry QB position.
