E-Camp participant Rob Bagg, Patrick Bugg and Omarr Conner sign with Saskatchewan

REGINA (CFL.ca wire) -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Wednesday that the club has signed non-import receiver Rob Bagg, import receiver Patrick Bugg and import quarterback Omarr Conner to multi-year contracts. Financial terms of the signings were not disclosed.

Bagg spent four seasons at Queen’s University. The 22-year old receiver caught 37 passes for 671 yards and four touchdowns in his final season. He also had 70 punt returns for 544 yards and 16 kickoff returns for 368 yards. Bagg was among the 52 participants at the 2007 TransGlobe CFL Evaluation Camp last March in Toronto.

"Rob Bagg is a young man (head coach) Kent (Austin) liked very much on film,” said Roughriders general manager and vice president of football operations Eric Tillman. “It may sound simplistic, but he just goes and gets the football. In fact, had we not taken David McKoy with our first selection, Rob would not have gone undrafted. But, with only five picks, and our depth at receiver, we chose to address other needs late in the draft."

Bugg spent the past four seasons at Eastern Kentucky. The 23-year old receiver dressed in a total of 36 games at Eastern Kentucky and had 112 career receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named First Team All-American by The Sports Network and was a second team AP All-American and a first team All-OVC.

"Patrick has good hands, sub 4.6 speed and can present a real matchup nightmare given his height," said Tillman. "The high level of competition which we're going to have at the receiver position in training camp, just became higher."

Conner played both quarterback and wide receiver during his four years at Mississippi State. He spent the first two games of his senior season at wide receiver, but was moved to quarterback for the remainder of the season. The 22-year old completed 76 of 135 passes for 943 yards and three touchdowns.

"Omarr's collegiate career was reflective of a young man who is totally unselfish," said Tillman. "After starting at quarterback early on at Mississippi State, he moved to wide receiver when they asked him to. Then, his senior year, after injuries necessitated him returning to quarterback, Omarr played very, very well, even with a serious groin injury. His last game against arch rival Ole Miss, Omarr had no business playing medically, but he did so because he has the heart of a warrior. Kent and I love the mentality and toughness he brings to the field."

"Starting at two positions in the SEC, speaks volumes of his athletic ability. And, in my opinion, that skill set, which includes a big-time arm, is well suited for the quarterback our league. Omarr's mechanics need polishing, but Kent is truly outstanding in that area. And, trust me, his has the size, mobility and arm strength are things which you can't coach. In that regard, he is an absolute clone of Kerry Joseph. In Mississippi, a state which has produced Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Archie Manning, Brett Favre, among other legends, Omarr Conner is considered one of the all-time greatest high school players."
