Roughriders add three to roster
January 23, 2008

REGINA (CFL.ca wire) -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Wednesday that the club has signed non-import receiver Rob Bagg, import defensive back Dre Dokes and import receiver Jason Mitchell to contracts. Financial terms of the signings were not disclosed.

Bagg was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Roughriders in May of last year. After attending training camp, Bagg returned to Queen’s University for his fifth season. In seven games for Queen’s last season, Bagg led the team and was second in the OUA with 36 catches for 804 yards and six touchdowns.

"Rob was, without a doubt, the biggest surprise in our 2007 training camp,” said Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman. “He's a young man we liked, but didn't draft after selecting a receiver (David McKoy) as our first pick. Obviously, we were stunned when Rob wasn't drafted, and quickly signed him as a free agent. That said, we never expected him to come in and earn an active roster spot during training camp. Of course, we also never expected him to decline that offer to return to Queen's. Rob has certainly taken an unconventional route to where we are now, but, trust me; we are thrilled to have him back in Green and White."

Dokes also attended training camp with the Roughriders after signing as a free agent in May, 2007. Dokes played four seasons at Northern Iowa as a starter and was named Defensive MVP by his team at the conclusion of the 2006 season. In his senior year he led the nation with seven interceptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. Dokes was named to the first team Walter Camp 1AA All-America in 2006.

"Dre has quick feet, good hips to turn and run and has very good acceleration,” noted Tillman. “Before he was nicked last year in camp, he was really making a favourable impression."

Mitchell originally signed with the Roughriders as a free agent in June, 2007. After attending a portion of training camp, Mitchell dressed in two games with the Roughriders as a back-up receiver had one catch for seven yards. Mitchell also spent three years at USC.

"Jason is a quality young man,” said Tillman. “He has good speed and more importantly, cares about being the best he can be. We saw enough good traits, on and off the field, to keep Jason for several weeks last year. With another camp, he should compete at a higher level."
