TORONTO -- Kevin Glenn, Stevie Baggs, Chad Owens and Chris Bauman were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 17, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Kevin Glenn was exceptional against the Alouettes, leading the Ticats to a 40-3 dismantling of the East Division leaders at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The Hamilton quarterback completed 21 of 32 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns, both to receiver Chris Bauman.

This marks the third time Glenn has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week this season. Glenn also collected the award for his outstanding performances in weeks three and 10 respectively.

The veteran pivot also added two carries for 13 rushing yards.

Stevie Baggs is the league’s standout defensive player for the second straight week, inspiring the Ticats defence in the team’s 40-3 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. The fifth-year CFL veteran recorded four tackles, one interception, one pass knock down and one fumble recovery for an 80-yard return touchdown in the winning effort.

The fumble return TD and interception came on back-to-back series late in the first quarter to help set the tone for Hamilton’s convincing win.

The Ticats have given up a mere 17 points in their current three-game winning streak, conceding only one TD during that span.

Chad Owens ignited the Argonauts once again, showcasing his speed and agility on kick returns in a 27-8 win on the road against the Blue Bombers. The first-year Argo racked up 169 total return yards in the game, returning one missed field goal for a 109-yard touchdown and five punts for 60 yards.

The missed field goal return TD occurred in the final minute of play in the first half, as Winnipeg kicker Justin Palardy came up short on a 51-yard attempt. The return TD was Owens’ fourth of the season and third in three games against the Bombers. In 2010 alone, he has accumulated 659 total return yards in three wins versus Winnipeg, averaging 219.7 yards per outing.

Owens currently ranks first in the CFL for missed field goal return yards (365), punt return yards (949), kickoff return yards (1,093), total return yards (2,407), and all-purpose yards (2,980), leading his nearest competitor by 1,099 yards in the latter category.

He has now collected five Gibson’s Finest weekly awards this season, including three special teams honours for each of his games against Winnipeg.

Chris Bauman had a career day on offence for Hamilton in their dominating 40-3 win over the visiting Alouettes this past weekend. The Ticats wide receiver surpassed the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career with 116 yards on five receptions, as well as, a career-high two touchdowns to earn the Canadian honour. Bauman caught TDs from nine and 29 yards out from fellow player of the week Kevin Glenn in the second half to put the game out of reach.

The Brandon, Manitoba native and Regina Rams alumnus is currently in his fourth CFL season, all as a member of the Ticats.

All of this week’s winners were unanimous selections.
