With names such as JC Sherritt, Adam Bighill, Solomon Elimimian, Chip Cox, and Juwan Simpson (to name a few) manning the defensive side of the ball for their respective teams, deciding who deserves the title as "best" is a tall task for anyone.

What about Rey Williams? He was easily the dominant LB in the CFL last year before he went out with a knee injury.

@R: what? better re-check your facts!! there's at least a handful of LBs sorry ahead of williams!!

Sure, here are some facts. In only 10 games last year Rey had 7 sacks, 42 tackles, an interception and a touchdown. And that's playing for a team in the CFL West where there is some actual competition, and on a team where the offence actually spent some time on the field too.

Just have to do a little pitch here for Simoni Lawrence who had a great season last year with the Ticats (his first as a starter) and has now signed with the Vikings, I believe. He's got to be at least as good as the others mentioned here, to get a look down south.

If one compares the last three years’ worth of stats you will find that JC Sherritt, even with only 10 starts last year and no season with a full 18 starts he is 2nd in tackles with 248, 2nd in Ints with 6 and tied for 2nd in fumble recoveries over the three years.
Playing mostly at MLB JC’s numbers are held back a bit by the position just like Solomon Elimimian in B.C. With his move to the outside this year Sherritt should have a bump in his numbers that will rival or surpass Cox and Bighill. With his speed and nose for the football J.C. should increase his tackles, ints and fumble recoveries. In addition the Esks will change to more of an attacking defensive style, which will increase JC’s sacks. Could be a career year for Sherritt.
