HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has released import kicker/punter Nick Setta.
"Nick was a respected member of this team and community as well as a hard worker both on and off the field. We would like to thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in the future," said Head Coach Marcel Bellefeuille.
"We just felt like we needed to more consistent at that position,” Bellefeuille said later via telephone. “The consistency factor came into effect and we felt it was necessary at this point in time to release Nick. Hopefully he'll have an opportunity to continue looking for an opportunity to work.”
"We had Jeremy Ito here last year and he did great job coming in the last game of the season and the most important game of the year for us and did a nice job there. We’ll also continue to look at other American kickers and possibly look at some kickers at some camps down in the States. We’ll see what’s available in the draft and trade as well. We're going to look at every possible avenue to improve our kicking game.”
Setta had 166 points for the Tiger-Cats last season and was 38-of-50 on field goal attempts.
