HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has released non-import receiver Dave Stala.

After joining the Ticats as a free agent on April 30, 2009, Stala caught 263 passes for 3,336 yards and 20 touchdowns in 86 regular season games. He recorded 10 receptions and 144 receiving yards in 14 games during the 2013 season.

"Dave was a respected member of this team for five seasons. On behalf of the Tiger-Cats organization, I'd like to thank Dave for his efforts on and off of the field and wish him all the best in the future," said General Manager and Head Coach Kent Austin.

@ar - NOT surprised by YOUR reaction either! Hate for anything Ticats! Stala didn't have injury problems in Hamilton (until having some knee surgery late last off-season) and was a reliable go-to receiver on 2nd and long!

@TFmcb: your not surprised at my reaction BUT for the wrong reasons!! very strong word you use HATE!! I don't hate hamilton city of or the ti-cats or any of the players or coaches etc. BUT do have issues with certain cat supporters who constantly refuse to honestly view their squad!! stala wasn't the receiver you think he was and now your frustration increases as stala signs with montreal!!

@ar - Stala WAS a clutch receiver when starting in Hamilton, regardless of what you think he did with the Als! Ever think that it was Stala who chose NOT to remain in Montreal when he had the chance to play for his hometown team?

@TFmcb: not surprised at your reaction to the truth!! I know exactly what he did in montreal, going from a ben cahoon clone to an unsigned FA wanting to re-sign with montreal!! of course didn't sign with montreal since he wanted to play in his HT is not a surprising comment from you BUT WRONG!! WHY? because hamilton really didn't want him either since they avoided signing him until almost the start of that year's TC!!

I was really disappointed to see that he was leaving. He is my favorite player and as a new season ticket holder I was looking forward to seeing him play.I would like to wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. You will be missed !

I just don't get this. Dave was clutch. Always made the catch when you needed it.

@LB: no cat supporter like you and TFmcb don't like to hear about stala is that his hands were a falsehood!! the main reason montreal didn't re-sign stala a few years back was he started dropping passes NOT one every now and then BUT on a regular basis!! SAD BUT TRUE!!

funny thing, while golfing with him last year he thought this might be his last year. getting to the big game was both a dream and nightmare. the guy still has good hands and might get a call from ottawa, but if not, best of luck with the business mate.

He enjoyed a great relationship with Glenn, perhaps, the RB's might be interested. He proven and well experienced. He's had (2) 1K seasons and one with Glenn. That's one more than the much heralded Fantuz.
