HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released six players Friday including veteran defensive back Geoff Tisdale, lineman Eddie Steele, linebacker Ike Brown, defensive back Carlos Thomas, linebacker Byron Bullock and running back Terry Grant.

Tisdale has spent five of his six CFL seasons with the Ticats, racking up 198 tackles and 17 interceptions.  His best campaign came in 2010 when he recorded 58 defensive tackles and four picks.  Steele was a draft pick of the Tiger-Cats, playing two seasons in Black and Gold and generating 32 tackles and one quarterback sack.  His 2012 season was cut short after suffering a leg injury.

Noticed that four of these players (Grant, Steele, Thomas and Tisdale were set to become free agents next month so releasing them early may give them a chance to catch on sooner with another team.

Sorry to see Grant released as he was awesome when he did play but seems that 2011 injury has been either career-ending or at least limiting and the Ticats do have Mallett (who should return), Cobourne and Walker still on board. Steele and Brown likewise seem to have been done in by injury. Tisdale was a disappointment when brought back, Thomas and Bullock were pretty inconsistent (like most of the defense last season!).

The new staff is looking, learning, and finding room for improvement. When you find room you have to make room and that means cuts. Someone has to go and new talent brought in. The coaching staff intends to make a run for the Cup.
