TORONTO -- S.J. Green’s route to the CFL has been blocked by a slew of outstanding receivers on the Alouettes receiver-rich roster.

During his rookie season in 2007 Green sat behind Elijah Thurmon on the depth chart. A year later it was Jamel Richardson who was the impediment to Green’s place as a big-body receiver for the Alouettes.

Green showed a glimmer of his ability in the final two games of the 2008 season, giving hope to the Texas native that this season there may be a spot for him on the Als’ roster.

With Richardson out of camp due to pneumonia, Green has seized the opportunity as the team’s best receiver through the first week of training camp.

In Wednesday’s pre-season game against the Toronto Argonauts, Green showcased another piece of his repertoire; his speed to get to the punter on special teams. Green recovered a blocked punt and nearly had two more blocked punts of his own in the Alouettes’ victory.
