As I Rider fan watching with others on TV we thought it was a nasty hit, and was surprised there was no 15 yards penalty for it, even during review. I love watching the Riders and all other CFL games, however this can't be acceptable from any member of the CFL. If the CFL felt it was punishable by fine I stand by them in that regard.

This was a missed call - no question. I am more troubled with many of the 'roughing the passer' penalties where the hit is clean and the defensive player had no way of holding back from the hit. It seems that if the QB is tough enough, all he has to do is wait until the defensive player is committed, then throw the ball anywhere - 15 easy yards.

All Brown had to do was not lead with his head. If he keeps his head up, the first contact is shoulder on shoulder. The only way to get these head injuries out of the game is to hold the hitter accountable.

Let me guess - all the people on here calling "Foul" are Rider fans!

It's kind of ironic that Reilly put his head down and ran like a fullback all night but one hit (yes it was to the head) and the D player gets fined. It seems a little unfair to the defense. If they really want to protect the QB then maybe there should be a rule that says the QB can't run the ball past the line of scrimmage.

The officials who missed that call (and many others) should be fined. Call the game fair boys. Eskimos would have won that game if that call was made.

As much as I agree with you about the outcome I disagree about fining refs. I would rather they miss stuff than call all the borderline judgements.

Edmonton was losing, but if the call was made, they would have won? No bias in that statement. The refs make mistakes throughout every game, and many of them could impact the game in the end. This was a miss for sure, and Edmonton MAY have been able to score again - or not.

If this hit was called a penalty on the field, I doubt we'd see a fine. The game may have had a different final score too.

How are defensive players supposed to hit the quarterback? The targetable area is getting smaller and smaller. No way Brown meant to hit him in the head. A penalty should have been called, but a fine for accidental head contact is too much.

Hall for the Bombers seems to be getting to the QB without being fined. Riders lose that game if a penalty was called then, and I would love to hear the comments if that was Durant on the end of that hit.

I would say the same thing. Refs should of called a penalty, that would mean Eskimo ball and likely an Eskimo win. But the fine was too much.

That kind of sucks as there is no way he did so intentionally. Now they are just going to make defenders scared to hit as they may get fined for incidental contact. But then they let McCallum off with the blatant tripping which could injure a player.

I seen that too and they never called him either. He always seems to being stuff like that!!!!! That is tripping and he should have told about it!!!

als rule
that's it just 1 player fined for an illegal hit? funny looked like more to me!!

als rule notta
Just cause ur old qb gets an eye injury or concussion every time he gets hit it is perceived to be an illegal hit by the refs doesn't mean that its illegal when any other qb in the league gets hit

AR - You must have been watching the Montreal game. The partial hit to Reilly's helmut/head truly looked unintentional. Always negative comments...you never have anything nice to say. Sad commentary.
