Toronto, ON – (August 07, 2008) – Wes Cates, Cam Wake, Dominique Dorsey, and Paris Jackson were named the CFL’s top players for the month of July, the Canadian Football League announced today.
Players of the Month are selected for on-field excellence by members of the Canadian football broadcasters. The Month of July included the first six games of the 2008 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
RB – Wes Cates – Saskatchewan Roughriders
Highlights / Key Stats:
Wes Cates has been the offensive catalyst for the undefeated Saskatchewan Roughriders through the first six games, rushing for league highs of 632 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Cates has averaged 105.3 yards per game and has also caught 19 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns this season. His nine touchdowns are three more than any other player in the league and he is fourth in combined yards with 866.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
DE – Cam Wake – BC Lions
Highlights / Key Stats:
The defending Defensive Player of the Year has started the 2008 season in similar fashion, by terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. Wake has totaled a CFL high seven sacks through six games. He also has 23 tackles for the league’s second ranked defence. Wake was named the CFL’s top defensive player in week two.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
KR/PR – Dominique Dorsey – Toronto Argonauts
Highlights / Key Stats:
Dominique Dorsey has put together an excellent start to the season returning kicks, punts and missed field goals for the Argonauts. Dorsey is first in the league with 382 punt return yards, including a 94 yard touchdown in week six. He is also third in the league with 515 kick return yards and second with 94 yards on missed field goal returns. Dorsey leads the league with 1233 combined yards. He was named the top special teams player in weeks two and six.

CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE MONTH
WR – Paris Jackson – BC Lions
Highlights / Key Stats:
Paris Jackson has had the best start to his six year CFL career and is fifth on the CFL’s receiving yards list. Jackson has caught a team high 28 passes for 477 yards and two touchdowns through six games. He is averaging 79.5 receiving yards per game. He was named top Canadian player for weeks four and five.
