Chad Owens – SB/KR – Toronto Argonauts
Toronto Argonauts receiver and kick returner Chad Owens was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player at the 2012 Gibson’s Finest Player Awards.
Owens earns his first MOP Award after becoming the first player in league history to lead the CFL in both receiving yards, as well as combined return yards.
Owens also broke Michael 'Pinball' Clemons' record for most combined yards in a single season and became the first player in professional football to register at least 3,000 combined yards in three-straight seasons.
The 30-year-old native of Honolulu racked up 1,328 yards and six touchdowns on 94 receptions and added 2,510 combined return yards, helping the Argos to a second place finish in the East Division.
This is the third straight season Owens was nominated for a major CFL award. He was named the East Division Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2010 and 2011, and was awarded CFL Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2010.
Owens will aim to become the third player in four years to win both the Most Outstanding Player award and the Grey Cup in the same season.
BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay accomplished the feat last season, while Alouettes pivot Anthony Calvillo did the same in 2009.
