ANDY FANTUZ is one of the most-sure handed receivers in the CFL and a favourite target of quarterback Darian Durant. Despite playing in only 13 games this season the Chatham, Ont. native recorded a career-high 67 catches for 882 yards with four touchdowns. Fantuz might be the best second down receiver in the CFL, stopping him will be key to any hopes of limiting the Rider offence. |

DARIAN DURANT did something no Rider quarterback had done since 1976. He guided the Riders to first place in the West. He proved himself to be one of the most clutch players in the league this season. The Western All-Star at quarterback, he has struggled this season, at times, by turning the ball over. Taking care of the ball will be important for the Riders if they hope to win their second Grey Cup in three years. |

JASON ARMSTEAD dramatically improved what was a weak return game when he re-joined the Riders midway through the season. Armstead actually finished with better averages in yards per kick return (25) and per punt return (9.2) than All-Star return man Larry Taylor. |

STEVIE BAGGS and fellow DE John Chick give the Riders one of the most dominating pass rushes in the league. Baggs finished tied for the league lead with 12 quarterback sacks this season. He also racked up 55 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, four tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception. After being left off the CFL All-Star team and losing out to John Chick for the team’s defensive MOP this season Baggs has added motivation heading into the Grey Cup. |

WES CATES could be an X-factor for the Riders in the Grey Cup. Cates was a bit of a forgotten man this season as the only feature RB in the league that failed to rush for 1,000 yards. If Cates can get himself going to complement the strong Rider passing game the offence will be hard to stop. |

ANTHONY CALVILLO has been the class of the CFL at the quarterback position for years and 2009 was no exception. The veteran QB totaled 4,639 passing yards in 2009 in addition to leading the CFL with a 72 per cent completion rate, 26 touchdown passes, and a quarterback rating of 108.4. He also threw the fewest interceptions with six. The biggest knock against the future Hall of Famer is that he has had trouble winning the big game. In his six previous appearances in the Grey Cup Calvillo has only won once. |

ANWAR STEWART had one of the best seasons of his career in 2009 with 38 tackles, nine sacks, two tackles for losses, four forced fumbles and five knockdowns. The leader of the Als' dominant defence set a team record with his 53rd career sack this season and was named a CFL All-Star. He is also the east nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player. |

BEN CAHOON caught a team high 89 passes this year for 1,031 yards and a pair of touchdowns as he broke the 1,000-yard barrier for an eighth straight season and ninth time in his career. He moved into fourth place in CFL history for most receptions and sixth for most receiving yards, passing Don Narcisse on both accounts. Cahoon has an incredible knack for getting himself open and making the catch when his team needs it the most. |

JERALD BROWN was one of the most exciting defensive players to watch in ‘09. The rookie DB emerged as one of the premiere playmakers this season recording four interceptions which he returned for a total of 104 yards. He also had 45 tackles, five for losses and a 93-yard fumble return for the league-leading Als. |

LARRY TAYLOR is the best return man in the game at the moment. It almost seems unfair that the league’s top offence has Taylor setting them up with such good field position all the time. The CFL All-Star continued his dominance on kick and punt runbacks this season, lighting up the league for 788 yards and a pair of majors on 89 punt returns this season. He also had 1,059 yards on 51 kickoff returns and 124 yards and a touchdown on missed field goal returns. |
GREY CUP ANALYSIS
![]() |
|
MASTERS on the RIDERS: No other team seems to have as much depth at the receiver position. Andy Fantuz is emerging as the team’s top threat and the Western Mustangs product has answered the call. When it comes to shutting down the Roughriders offence the mission will be a difficult one. |
|
|
MASTERS on the ALOUETTES: They are simply the best: If you looked at each CFL team roster and compared them player-by-player the final analysis would reveal that the Alouettes are simply better. They have more talent at almost every position and no blatant weaknesses. | |

|
CAUZ on the RIDERS: Beyond his impressive numbers I like the fact that Darian Durant guided his team to a .500 record (4-4-1) on the road. That might not seem overly impressive until you realize that every other team not named "Montreal" or "Alouettes" finished with a losing road record. |
| CAUZ on the ALOUETTES: I dare you to find any real weaknesses on this team. The worst things I can think of from Montreal is Ben Cahoon finishing with just two touchdowns. Calvillo is playing at a level higher than any other player in the league. His numbers are ridiculous and are a testament to the weapons that Montreal has surrounded him with. | ||

STEIN on the RIDERS: Special teams have been a weak point for the Riders this year. Boreham may have entertained with his big hits, but that does the Riders no good in the punting department. Before Jason Armstead arrived on the scene the return game was hard to stomach. Congi is solid at kicker. |
| STEIN on the ALOUETTES: Montreal’s receiving corps is great, but I worry a little bit beyond the big four. But have no fear, because they have Avon Cobourne at running back and he is one of the league's best. The offensive line reads like an all-star team; no wonder Calvillo has only thrown six picks. |
