Blue Bombers add Armstrong

WINNIPEG (CFL.ca wire) – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers upgraded their receiving corps on Tuesday with the signing of wide receiver Derick Armstrong. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Armstrong spent the past three seasons with the Houston Texans of the NFL. He appeared in 35 games with the Texans between 2003 and 2005, starting a total of five games. His best game as a Texan was on October 10, 2004 when he caught six passes for 101 yards against the Minnesota Vikings.

Armstrong also has plenty of CFL experience. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the 2001 and 2002 seasons, where he played with Blue Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn. Armstrong played in a total of 28 games for the Roughriders and was a CFL All-Star in 2002, when he caught 70 passes for 1,104 yards and five touchdowns.

“We are extremely fortunate to be able to add a player of Derick Armstrong’s calibre to our team,” Blue Bombers general manager Brendan Taman said. “He has all the necessary tools to be an impact player and his previous experience in this league means that he will be able to make an immediate impact.”
