Canadian Football League Week #13

Toronto, ON – (September 29, 2009) – Avon Cobourne, T.J. Hill, Alexis Serna and Andy Fantuz were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 13, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson’s Finest CFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RB – Avon Cobourne – Montreal Alouettes

Highlights / Key Stats:

Avon Cobourne had his best game of the season to help the first place Alouettes rout the second place Ticats 42-8 on the road. Cobourne tallied 193 yards rushing with two touchdowns on 23 carries.
 
Cobourne also caught five passes for 46 yards giving him 239 yards from scrimmage in the victory.
 
After his big day Cobourne now leads the league in both rushing yards (1,043) and yards from scrimmage (1,423). Cobourne also leads the league in touchdowns with 13 on the season.

Gibson’s Finest CFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DB – T.J. Hill – Edmonton Eskimos

Saskatchewan Roughriders 23 @ Edmonton Eskimos 20

Highlights / Key Stats:

T.J. Hill was the defensive star for the Edmonton Eskimos in a losing effort against the Saskatchewan Roughriders this weekend. Hill racked up seven tackles, two sacks and two interceptions in front of a Commonwealth Stadium record crowd of 62,517 fans.
 
Hill returned his first interception of the game 59 yards for his first career touchdown to give the Eskimos an early 7-0 lead. Hill has three interceptions in his last three games.

Gibson’s Finest CFL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

K – Alexis Serna – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Toronto Argonauts 24 @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers 29

Highlights / Key Stats:

Alexis Serna accounted for nearly half of the Blue Bombers’ scoring in their victory over the Argos on Saturday night. Serna hit 4 of 5 field goals and was good on both his extra point attempts for the game.

Serna was good from distances of 53, 32, 13, and 41 yards. His lone miss came on a 44-yard attempt in the third quarter.

Serna has hit 24 of 28 attempts this season (85.7%). Only the Argos’ Justin Medlock has been more accurate kicking field goals this season.

SB – Andy Fantuz – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders 23 @ Edmonton Eskimos 20

Highlights / Key Stats:

Chatham, Ontario native Andy Fantuz led the Roughriders with seven catches and 71 yards receiving in their come-from-behind victory over the Eskimos on Saturday.
 
Fantuz has 29 receptions for 394 yards and two touchdowns in only seven games for the Riders this season.
