Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month
Canadian Football League September
Toronto, ON – (September 30, 2009) – Jeremaine Copeland, Otis Floyd, Luca Congi and Ricky Foley were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month for September the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
Gibson’s Finest CFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
R – Jeremaine Copeland – Calgary Stampeders
Highlights / Key Stats:
Jeremaine Copeland had a great month in what has been a spectacular season to date, as he compiled four touchdowns on 18 receptions for a total of 343 yards to help the Calgary Stampeders to a 3-1 record in September.
For the month, Copeland had two game winning touchdowns for the Stampeders. The first coming on September 11 in a game against the Edmonton Eskimos where he caught a pass from Henry Burris with just 22 seconds remaining in the game to give the Stamps the win. The second came on September 25 against the BC Lions when he caught Burris’ team record 141st touchdown pass that put the Stamps up for good.
Through the first three months of the season, Copeland is second in the league in receiving yards (886), and second in total touchdowns (12).

Gibson’s Finest CFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
LB – Otis Floyd – Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Highlights / Key Stats:
Otis Floyd anchored Tiger-Cats’ defence in September as he collected 21 tackles, including three quarterback sacks.
Floyd’s best game of the month came against the defending Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders on September 18, when Floyd and the Ticats defence held quarterback Henry Burris to just nine yards passing in the first half. In that game, Floyd had three tackles, two of which were sacks.
Through the first three months of the season, Floyd has a total of 46 tackles, three quarterback sacks and one interception.

Gibson’s Finest CFL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
K – Luca Congi – Saskatchewan Roughriders
Highlights / Key Stats:
Luca Congi was integral to the Roughriders’ success in the month of September, helping lead the team to a 3-1 record. During the month, Congi was almost perfect, as he was 12-for-13 on field goals and 12-for-12 on convert attempts for a total of 48 points.
In a week 11 matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Congi had by far his best game of the season, going 6-for-6 on field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on converts for 23 points in the Roughriders’ big win. For his efforts, Congi was named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
Through the first three months of the season, Congi is ranked fifth in the league in total kicking points, while converting on 81.5 % of his field goal attempts.

Gibson’s Finest CFL CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE MONTH
DE – Ricky Foley – BC Lions
Highlights / Key Stats:
Ricky Foley was huge for the BC Lions in the month of September, helping the team to a 2-2 record and keeping them close in the CFL West standings.
For the month, Foley compiled nine tackles, including four quarterback sacks. His best game of the season came on September 19 against the visiting Toronto Argonauts, where he had seven tackles including three sacks while leading a Lions’ defence that pressured Argos’ quarterback Cody Pickett all night.
After three months, Foley is now tied with Montreal’s John Bowman for the league lead with nine quarterback sacks.
