Ticats sign veteran LB Shannon James

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed veteran import linebacker Shannon James as well as import defensive linemen Josh Gaines, Albert Smith and Chris White.

James, a 5-10, 205-pound native of Bridgeport, Connecticut spent the last four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, making 200 defensive tackles, four quarterback sacks, 13 tackles for losses and three interceptions in 56 games.  He was nominated as Calgary’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2007 and 2008.

Gaines, a 6-1, 274-pound native of Fort Wayne, Indiana joined the Ticats practice roster last October after attending training camp with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.  The Penn State product was an All-Big Ten honourable mention selection in 2007 and 2008

Smith, a 6-0, 301-pound native of Matthews, Louisiana spent four years at Northwestern State, recording 146 tackles, 22.5 tackles for losses and nine quarterback sacks in 43 games.  He was selected First-Team All-Southland Conference in 2009.

White, a 6-3, 272-pound native of Bakersfield, California played four years at Cal Poly, earning first-team All-Great West Football Conference honours in 2005 and 2006.  He attended training camp with the Calgary Stampeders in 2007.
